36 China town Movie Stills36 China town Movie WAllpapers From the team that bought you hit movies such as 'Baazigar',
'Khiladi' and 'Humraaz' comes '36 China Town' director duo Abbas-Mustan bring you a whodunit style of thriller. The
story revolves around a murder and this time it is that of a high flying business woman who is in charge of casino. Sonia
(Isha Koppikar) is based in Goa and has two things of importance in her life, her son and her casino. When Sonia's son
goes missing she puts out a reward of Rs 25 Lakhs for his safe return.
Along come Raj (Shahid Kapur) and Priya (Kareena Kapoor) initially they are strangers but on finding Sonia's son at the
same moment they decide to go halves on the reward. So as they decide to return the son safely home to Sonia's
mansion they find out that the worst has happened and that Sonia has been murdered!
Fleeing the scene of the crime, both Raj and Priya make a dash for it and in doing so Priya happens to leave behind her
suitcase at the mansion.
Along comes Inspector Akshay (Akshaye Khanna) one small problem though, he comes across Priya's suitcase which
leads them to being the number one suspects in this murder investigations. However Inspector Akshay knows that
although the evidence is there, it all seems to be pointing in the right direction a bit too easily for a murder investigation.
As it happens a few more suspects begin to appear notably Inspector Akshay's investigations become mind boggling.
Adding to his list of suspects are a playboy (Upen Patel), two couples one being Johny Lever in the form of a compulsive
gambler with his wife Tanaz Currim, A rich but slightly crazy character being Paresh Rawal and his wife Payal Rotagi, a
drunkard and some domestic help also add to this wacky line up.
So we are left with the questions who is the murderer? and why did they do it? Being a whodunit of course the Inspector
does manage to put all his clues together and find his suspect.
Overall '36 China Town' is a movie that has too much going on at the same time. At times there are many other sub plots
going off on a tangent and example being the romance between Shahid and Kareena then throw in some Bollywood
masala filmi songs, the odd couple of jokes from Paresh Rawal and Johnny Lever and it all goes a bit haywire.
The climax leaves much too be desired and is weak and highly disappointing.
Akshaye Khanna seems to play his role well enough and seems to be the only one making any kind of impact at all in the
movie. Kareena role is quite passé and should have been given more depth she is simply there just to run circles around
Shahid.
Shahid is taking his acting way over the top especially with some more than needed facial expressions! For his debut
Upen Patel seems ok and quite confident in his role. Paresh Rawal and Johny Lever are there for comedy value and are
funny at times but it is all becoming a bit too predictable and forced in places and if your looking forward it Priyanka
Chopra's surprise appearance well you are not missing much.
Probably the one thing that has helped this movies promotion is the soundtrack by Himesh Reshammiya with tracks like
'Aashiqui Meri' and '24 x 7' your ingredients for the perfect 'masala' movie are now put together. Expect lots of skin on
show, some thrills, a little bit of comedy, Bollywood singing and dancing and a climax that will leave you shaking your
head in disbelief at the end.
