Anil Mehta experimentation worked due to the extra something called Madhuri dixit. The script was normal nothing
special but in the implementation of the old story of Laila Majnu, Anil does the trick. Aaja Nachle has been made for
Madhuri and I do think she does full justice to the role. Madhuri's splendid performance as Dia , a small town girl who
lefts the village and who fell in love with a photographer. She comes back to see that her dance masters who dies has
ajanta theatres which should be saved from the builders to continue the Art of dancing. But she has only two months to
prove this with the help of the very villagers who ridiculed her. The Laila-Majnu twist gave a whole new dimension to the
movie.
The playing in the form of an Opera of the Laila-Majnu story is incredible and the song and dance by the villagers, after
many rehearsals, enacts the story to a deep applause. The implementation of the whole Opera is brilliant and it has
never portrayed so well.
Madhuri superb dance proves that she is still with same spirits. But for me it is Akshaye Khanna in his cameo, and
Konkona Sen Sharma who excel. Jugal Hansraj who shows some flames, for a short time, in his performance as
Laila’s brother in the Opera was great. Ranvir Shorey still looks silly after his pervious performances in movies.
Irfan Khan, role was wasted. Vinay Pathak moves from his BHEJA FRY performance after the first few scenes.
The music of Salim Merchant and Sulaiman Merchant was not so brilliant but the title song was extremely superb with
madhuri’s dance. For Madhuri Dixit fans, the movie will be good and refresh them with memories of her pervious
movies. Yes finally we can say it a average movie but definitely worth a one-time watch!
